South Carolinians love their golf. Golf enthusiasts are seen on the greens in all four seasons. Mauldin is home to the semi-private Hejaz Shrine Recreation Club, an 18-hole challenging course. The course was built in 1979 and designed by noted golf course architect, Russell Breeden. Mauldin’s annual Bark in the Park is a fund raising event held in October each year to benefit the local animal shelter and other animal programs in the area. Interesting Facts/Historic Buildings and Places Mauldin is the 20th largest city out of 258 cities in South Carolina. Mauldin has a rich history dating back to the late 1700s. On June 18, 1784, the Benjamin Griffith family received a land grant of 100 acres and settled in Mauldin and others soon followed. Mauldin's railroad depot was built in 1886. The original charter of the town was approved December 24, 1890. Mauldin officially became a city in 1969 with a population of 3,797. In honor of John C.
